Priority number one: protect your privacy

Given all the press that identity theft has received in recent years, the number of people still taking risks with personal information is surprising. When going online, we are entering a giant fish bowl and our first priority should always be to protect your privacy. This doesn’t mean we cannot give out our names or Email addresses, just that we should be aware to whom we are giving them. There are a number of other ways to invade privacy besides identity theft, and honest businesses engage in none of them. Most reputable companies’ websites contain a privacy policy statement somewhere, and it is well to take the time to read these statements.
